This cypress is the protagonist of an ancient legend. It is reported that the tree was actually a wooden stick that the Holy Francis planted in this soil. In this same point, few years later, a convent would have been built.
The story tells that the Devil knocked down the tree with a wind storm do spite the Holy. But Saint Francis, in spite of the Devil, made another prodigy, and reversing the' tree, replanted it so it could continue to live, with its branches and leaves underground and its roots in the air.
The trunk is still impressive and still spreads in the air a deep fragrance of resin.
