San Nicola
The island is the historical and administrative center of the whole Archipelago. On this island you can visit the ancient Church of Santa Maria al Mare with its adjoining Abbey.
The Church was built in 1045 by the Bishop of Dragonara. Inside you can admire several works from the Middle Age and Renaissance time, among which a magnificent crucifix on table of the twelfth century stands out.
On the island you will also find the Castle, which, during the fifteenth century, was subjected to an important restoration that deeply changed its original structure.
San Domino
Called by the Benedictine monks the Garden of Paradise, this island is rich in natural vegetation, mainly comprising pine woods d' Aleppo and flowers of various species.
Besides the incredible clarity of the water, you will be amazed by the jagged rocks, and by their rough tips and pitfalls coming out from the sea.
Making the boat trip of the island, you can not help but see the many caves dug into the rock: the cave of the Viole, the cave of the Bue Marino and, finally, that of the Rondinelle.
One of the peculiarities of San Domino is the beach below Pagliai: actually, you can only get there by sea.
At its highest, the island is 116 meters high and this point is known as the Chapel of the Hermit.
Cretaccio
The island is completely uninhabited.
Its shape makes it a little rocky storage hostile to human beings.
The soil is predominantly clayey: the island is actually destined to disappear because of' the corrosive action of atmospheric and marine agents.
Caprara
Particularly known for the cultivation of capers (for this reason the island is also known as Capperaia), Caprara seems to be completely uninhabited.
A few meters from the coast you can see the little rock called La Vecchia.
Pianosa
It is the most isolated of this group of islands, and, perhaps, even the most arid one: besides being completely uninhabited, the island is also devoid of any sort of vegetation. n Pescara following the direction Poggio Imperiale; take then the motorway to Vico del Gargano.
