The Marine Caves of Vieste

All along the south coast of Vieste, you can visit the beautiful sea caves, each with a special name and a story full of mystery.

Thanks to the motorboat trips, always including a professional tourist guides, you can plunge into the pristine nature of this semi-submerged world. 

One of the most fascinating tourist attractions is certainly the complex of the Tremiti Islands (San Domino, San Nicola, crevasses, Deposit and Pianosa), which can be reached by the many maritime connections available.

The Old Town and the Castle of Vieste

In the historic centre of Vieste, you will have the possibility to visit the old castle in Duomo street, located on top of cliff overlooking the sea. The castle was built by Frederick in 1240 as “king fortress".

Its construction was part of a proposed coastal fortification, which included many castles all along the Adriatic shore. Consisting of a triangular plant and having three solid bastions a pentagonal base, the Castle of Vieste is currently used as a base for by weather forecasting the Aeronautics.

The Necropolis “La Salata” 

Within the territory of the Gargano National Park, there is the first WWF protected area of the province of Foggia: the Natural and Archaeological oasis of "La Salata". There you can admire the remains of a necropolis dated between the III and the IV century AD.

Guided tours to the necropolis are organized by the agency "Sinergie" in collaboration with WWF.

Churches and Museums


Other possible suggestions to tourists are the Church of San Francesco, the Museum "M.Petrone” and the Museum of Malacology in Via Pola.
